A Tribute to Science

Some say that 19th and 20th centuries were the era of physics and chemistry and 21st century is an era of biology.

Obviously, investigations in all these branches of science have begun many centuries ago, but Physics and Chemistry did clearly make an amazing impact on the society during the recent two centuries. The most important technological advancement related to biology that excites us to call 21st century the era of Biology is the genome sequencing.

The capability to sequence the genomes alone doesn’t do it all, but it does change how biology is studied. For one thing, it enables and requires scientists from many other disciplines (biologists, chemists, physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists and so on) to join forces to advance the study of biology.

More specifically 21st century is the era of interdisciplinary science! Bioinformatics and computational biology are specific new disciplines that came to the scenes of biology research as a result of late 20th century developments in biology.

Especially for students, this translates to a possible increase in choices and opportunities related to the pursuit of higher studies and future careers.
